TROOP 685 - RIGHT FOR YOU? As you start, realize selecting the right Boy Scout Troop for you may be the most important decision of your scouting career. Rest assured that there are many very good troops in our area, and you should visit several troops to find the one that is right for you.

Unlike Cub Scouts, where Packs are organized around a common gathering point like a school or a church, Boy Scout Troops are organized around common values, philosophies, and interests.  Boy Scout Troops do not necessarily draw youth from a specific church or school, but gather a set of youth with similar interests. Each Boy Scout Troop has its own unique character, traditions, and activity focus. Many troops focus on different activities like cave exploring, canoeing, backpacking, high adventure, etc. Picking a troop that focuses on activities that interest you is key to staying in scouting and on the trail to eagle.

All to often, a boy selects a troop because it's the one his friend selected, or it's just down the street ... only to find that the troop doesn't match his interests — the result being a lost scout. While it's always good to have a friend or two to join you as you begin your new journey, you will quickly find yourself quickly developing new friends as you work in the patrol method and cook, eat, and sleep with your patrol every month.

Come and check us out. You might want to call this Troop, "Home".

PFLUGERVILLE CHRISTMAS PARADE - HELD DECEMBER 5th

Posted on Dec 12 2015 - 12:40pm

The Pflugerville Christmas Parade - We decorated our trailer at the Scoutmaster's house and then lined up on Pfennig Lane - we were #28 behind Pack 685. There was cookies and hot chocolate and Christmas carols and candy throwing. The actual parade started at 5:30pm. There were hundreds of Pflugerville residents that came to see the parade along Railroad Street, but thousands of people lined the entire parade route to the end. We ran out of candy by the time we hit Main Street. It was a lot of fun and thanks to Austin Christ for driving the trailer. Next year we need more scouts!!!!

Webelos Woods Campout

Posted on Dec 5 2015 - 10:17am

If there were only 2 words to describe this camping trip, they would have to be "wet" but, "successfull". Troop 685 camped out to Smilin'  V ranch for this year's annual Webelos Woods. It rained the entire weekend but that did not get in the way of the fun. We taught the Webelos how to make a tripod and made a catapult to show them how fun lashings could be. There were a total of 8 Webelos who camped with us and will hopefully join our troop.

Granger Lake Campout at Willis Creek Park

Posted on Oct 18 2015 - 2:26pm

The Camping trip this weekend at Willis Creek Park on Granger Lake went great! Several Webelos camped with us for some fun and lessons in very valuable scout skills such as First Aid, Map and Compass, Lashings (we built a camp gadget and a slingshot, shooting horse apples for ammunition!) and Fire Building. Later that day, the scouts came together for a very competitive game of Capture the Flag. For dinner, scouts and adults had a chili cook off, and one of the scout patrols won with Venison Chili! Congratulations to Justin Cox for making the chili which received the most votes! At the end of the day, the Troop came together to make Fried Oreos, a Dutch Oven Dump Cake with pineapples, and tell scary stories at the campfire. If you missed this legendary campout, be sure to make it to the Wilderness Survival Campout, October 24th-October 25th.
